Born and raised here in Portland, Oregon, I grew up pursuing a ballet career with Oregon Ballet Theatre. As a dancer, I developed a keen awareness of my body, but unfortunately, I also suffered multiple injuries, which eventually forced me to let go of that dream. My struggles with repetitive and chronic injuries pushed me to seek out various types of medical and alternative care. Along the way, I discovered that traditional Western medicine often ended up only chasing or covering up my symptoms, and sometimes introduced new symptoms from multiple medications. Eventually, I found an Acupuncturist, Lisa Mae Osborn, M.S., L.Ac. and for the first time, my body began to heal. These experiences and my connection to this medicine fed my desire to learn more about the body, what causes pain, and how to treat pain at the source, rather than simply suppressing symptoms.
It became clear to me that Acupuncture provides the kind of care that addresses the whole person, taking into account not only our physical complaints, but also considering psychological, emotional and spiritual health. It makes sense to me that, in order to be healthy and whole, we must attend to all aspects of ourselves.
When I look back, everything shifted after I met my Acupuncturist; her care became a light that seeped into all areas of my life. My fifteen-year journey since that meeting has been truly life-changing. Acupuncture finally provided the type of care I was seeking, and with the support and guidance of my mentor, I began my own journey to become a practitioner.
I am passionate about treating people struggling with various pain syndromes and sports injuries, as well as anxiety, depression and stress relief. I also enjoy seeing Acupuncture treat seasonal allergies/flu and headaches and help improve reproductive health. I enjoy helping patients find new ways to approach their health concerns, and I have found that by combining coordinated care, patients often have better outcomes.
I strongly support the co-mingling of Acupuncture with Western medicine practices, when applicable, and have a referral network encompassing a wide variety of providers to help patients round out the care they need. I’ve honed the capability to draw upon multiple treatment theories and methodologies to customize care for the unique needs of my patients.
In the clinic with me, I hope to listen intently; through our conversation, we will make a plan tailored just for you and your specific needs that day. Some days this means less, some days this means more. I will meet you where you are, while helping you find exactly the care you need.
I look forward to working with you.
I graduated from the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine (OCOM), one of this nation’s oldest and most reputable schools for East Asian Medicine, where I was fortunate to learn from some of the best practitioners in the Western world. Most of my experience and training is based on OCOM’s Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) program, focusing on Chinese Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine and Five Element theory. OCOM incorporates various techniques including Cupping, Gua Sha, Moxa, Japanese style Acupuncture, Korean style Acupuncture, Teishin (needle-less acupuncture), Master Tung’s style, Trigger Release, Myofascial release, as well as Tuina and Shiatsu massage styles. Additionally, we focused on creating safer and more welcoming treatment and clinical encounters for people across all lines of difference. I am committed to ongoing study, and to learning to work more intentionally and conscientiously with those who have experienced trauma.
I am in awe of the wonder of the human body, and I am always eager to learn more. My ongoing studies and mentorships help me fine-tune my skills and aid me in becoming a better practitioner. Since graduating from OCOM, I have been in close mentorship with Lisa Mae in her clinic, learning about the pain treatment and management style (APM) that she practices, the very techniques that brought me to this medicine.
